The Annual Inter-House Athletic Sports Meet


The Annual Inter-House Athletic Sports Meet of Good Shepherd Convent, Kandy was held on Wednesday 21st January 2015 at the Bogambara Ground.

The Chief Guest was a distinguished past pupil, Miss Sarah Arumugam, attorney – at law. She is the Programme Director of the Young Women’s Christian Association. She has extensive national and international training in the field of peace and human rights including women’s rights and leadership. As human rights activitist, she actively contributes in designing policies and strategies for Sri Lanka. She has participated in panel discussions at the Human Rights Council in Geneva and UN Commission on the Status of Women in New York.
She has visited more than 15 countries in her work related to women’s rights and peace processes. These countries include Germany, France, Iran, Iraq, Palestine, Turkey, U.K and the U.S.A. Miss Arumugam spoke eloquently on the value of Sports. Sports and athletics promote a variety of positive wholesome values and play a significant role in advocating honesty, fair play, respect for others, team work, and striving for the highest but in a healthy competitive spirit thus prioritizing moral and ethical values, and reflecting the vision of Good Shepherd Convent, Kandy.
