English Literary Activities

In today's global world, the importance of English cannot be denied and ignored. With the current trends in developing Technology, English plays a dominant role in many sectors. Keeping these trends in mind, we promote the study of English through curricular and extra-curricular activities. Students are encouraged to participate in competitions organized by the Ministry of Education, non-governmental organizations and other schools.

English Day is celebrated periodically, Inter house drama and debate competitions are held. Professor Ashley Halpe, Mrs. Jean Arasanayagam, Mrs. Lalitha Gunawardena and Mrs. Anoma Seneviratne are some of the many distinguished persons who graced these occasions as Chief Guests. The students have been highly commended for their excellent performance.
At the first All-Island Debate Competition organized by the Agriculture Faculty, Peradeniya in 1995, the school Debating team, lead by Amintha Paiva won first place.
The students have also participated in competitions organized by Kingswood College and Dharmarajah College and won places. At the Inter-House Debate Competitions in 2011, the winning House was St. Lucia's. The Best Speaker Junior Category was Casseirine Roshan and Senior Allison David. Many students have won places at the Zonal, Provincial and National Level competitions organized by the Ministry of Education.

Intermediate drama group won 1st place for their drama 'The Box' at the all- island competition organized by the Agriculture Faculty in 2014

2013

Suloshana Xavier won 2nd place at all island level and best outstation performance in 2013.

In 2013, At the Light of the World all island competition organized by the YMCA Karen Tennekoon won 1st place at intermediate level, best outstation performance and overall championship.

2012

In 2012, at all island level Isuri Sirisena won 2nd place in Recitation and Thurumi Ratnayake 1st place in Creative Writing.

At 'The Light of Asia' competitions organized by the YMBA, Isuri Sirisena won 1st place at Intermediate level and Karen Tennekoon 2 place in the Junior Category .

At the 'Light of the World' Competition Thilini David won outstation Best Performance [Senior Category). Jeshreen Balraj Outstation Best Performance (Inter-mediate) and Karen Tennakoon Outstation Best Performance (Junior Category).

2011

In 2011, at the all-island English Day Competitions Isuri Sirisena won 2nd place and Karen Tennakoon 3rd place.

2010

At the 'Light of the World' All island competition Shavitha Thavarasa won 3rd place in the Primary and Karen Tennekoon Best Outstanding performance (Junior Category) in 2010.

All island schools Spell-Master with CIMA, Spelling Competition Rashidah Hassan was 1st Runner up. Chrishari de Alwis was one of the twenty finalists in 2010

2009

Isuri Sirisena won 2nd place and Karen Tennekoon, 3rd place at All island level in Recitation, organized by the Ministry of Education in 2009

Tania Babu Lakshman won 2nd place at all-island Global-weeks-Essay writing competition organized by the Union of Sri Lanka Teacher's Solidarity Tania's essay was adjudged one of the best, at the competition organized by AAT SL in 2009.

Thilini Sirisena won 1st place in Recitation, at Provincial Level in 2008 and 2009.

2009/2008

Samitha Senanayake won 1st place in creative writing and 2 place in Oratory in the same year. Samitha also won 1st place at the all-island essay writing competition organized by the Press Complaints Commission.

2007

Sucheru Dissanayake won 3rd Place in Dictation at all-island level in 2007.

Our students participated in 'One Act plays' organized by the Interact Club of St. Anthony's College, and won several awards.
Students participated in the all-island Shakespeare drama competition. Students offering G.R.C. as a subject participated in many dramas organized bythe Classics Association and won many lst tplaces in 1995 and 1996.
They acted Antigone which won 1st place atthe Inter-House Drama Competition in 2006.
in 2010, the A/L students performed Brother's 'Menachmus' at the festival organized by Hillwood College and were commended.
At the Essay competition organized by the All Ceylon Union of Teachers on the occasion of World Teachers' Day Aysha Wazeer won 2nd place.
