International Day of the Girl Child 2024

“An Inspiring Journey of Johanna John”

Johanna John, a student in the Advanced Level Section, was selected to represent Sri Lanka at the virtual celebrations for the International Day of the Girl Child, alongside two other students from Good Shepherd Schools in Sri Lanka.

Under the guidance of mentors from the Good Shepherd Congregation, the team of Girl Advocates actively prepared for the Girl Child Day Virtual Event, “Barbie’s New Horizons – Breaking Barriers, Building Futures,” held on October 5, 2024. Fueled by their shared passion for advocating for girls worldwide, they successfully brought the event to life.

Reflecting on her experience, Johanna shares,
“This journey has taught me the value of teamwork, respect for diverse ideas, and the significant impact every girl can make. I’m proud to have made over 20 friends from countries like the Philippines, India, and Indonesia, and I had the honor of co-hosting the event with another advocate from India. I am deeply grateful to Ms. Sashirekha Natarajan, our mentor, for her unwavering support, and to my school principal, Rev. Sr. Sudarika Fernando, for this incredible opportunity.”
