The Annual Prize Day Ceremony of Good Shepherd Convent, Kandy was held on the 5th of May 2016 at St. Euphrasia’s Hall.
Professor Indika Gawarammana, Consultant Physician-Professional Media Unit, Teaching Hospital, Peradeniya, Professor –Head of the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya, Senior Lecture in Clinical Toxicology – Post Graduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Very Rev. Fr. Milroy Fonseka – Vicar General and Manager of Catholic Private Schools, Diocese of Kandy, Rev. Fr. Ivan Jayasundara – Vicar Forane of Kandy Vicariate and Parish Priest of St. Anthony’s Cathedral, Kandy, Rev. Sr. Mary Euphrasia Anthonypillai – Sector Co-ordinator, Rev. Sr. Mary Princy Mendis - Superior of Good Shepherd Convent, Kandy, Dr. Mrs. Rukmali Gawarammana, Past Teachers, Past Pupils and Members of the School Development Committee were among the distinguished guests of the function.
The school buildings and surroundings were beautifully decorated with flags and festoons. The function commenced with religious observances followed by the lighting of the traditional oil lamp.
The annual report for the year 2016 was read by the Principal, Rev. Sr. Chandrika Perera, highlighting the achievements gained by various sectors, due to the performances of both teachers and students.
Prizes were given away after the Chief Guest had addressed the gathering. The Prizes were awarded for different categories, which included good results in final examinations, regular attendance, for best performance at the G. C. E. (O/L) and G. C. E. (A/L) examinations.
The parents were highly impressed and encouraged by the students who had won All Island achievements; such as Chess, Table Tennis, Athletics, English Drama, Western and Oriental music.
The Chief Guest strongly admired and appreciated the services rendered by the sisters and teachers who produce strong, capable young ladies to the society.
Brief interludes in the form of cultural items performed by the Choir and the students of the dancing troupe added to the grandeur of the programme. The sublime energy of the rhythm and melody entrailed the audience.
The function come to an end with the vote of thanks proposed by the Head Girl.
